Why Bagz Bugz?

Why Bagz Bugz?

My husband’s nickname is Bags, which is based on our last name, Bagnoli, so that’s where Bagz comes from. Bugz is derived from some of our favorite fly patterns like girdle bugs and sow bugs.

"We are a family business and fortunate to have three generations of fly tyers."

Why the Z instead of an S…I don’t know, it just seemed to fit, therefore Bagz Bugz.

Montana-Based

Montana-Based

I grew-up in southwest Pennsylvania where my grandfather was a fly fisherman and taught me to tie. I’ve been tying for family, friends, and a few shops for the last 25 years. My husband and I lived and worked in the White Mountains of AZ for over twenty years where we fished local lakes and streams. We now live in Whitefish, MT.

We Live This

We Live This

We moved to Montana in 2021 to enjoy semi-retirement and be near outdoor-loving family. My husband Chris enjoys guiding on the local lakes and rivers and he is one of my most particular customers. I’m frequently tying a batch of the “hot-pattern” the night before he has a trip.

A Family Affair

A Family Affair

Colton Bagnoli is my husband’s nephew and is the middle generation fly tyer and a fishing guide as well. Colton grew-up in AZ where he fished and hunted at every opportunity. He moved to Montana over 15 years ago where he continues to hunt and fish with his family and friends. Colton is a self-proclaimed streamer junkie. He loves to fish a big streamer in pursuit of trout and pike. Many of our big trout and pike streamers are tied by Colton.

Multi-Generational

Multi-Generational

Colton’s daughter Reese is our third generation fly tyer. Her signature fly is a flashy purple girdle bug she calls “The Galaxy.” This pattern led to the “Bug” portion of our company name. She’s also becoming quite the fly fisherman and loves to spend the day floating a local river and testing new patterns.

Field-Tested

We are always trying out new patterns and variations of the tried-and-true classics.  Trout and pike patterns are what we tie most, but we tie a few that will catch bass, greyling, and panfish.
